Vaxholm
The boat ride to Vaxholm from Stockholm takes about an hour, which makes the little town a perfect destination for a day trip. In the quaint centre you will find old fishing cottages and houses from the turn of the century with hotels, restaurants, and shops.
The inlet to Vaxholm is dominated by the Fortress (Kastellet) which was built to defend Stockholm against intruders. At the fortress there is a museum, a restaurant, and a bed & breakfast. At the Vaxholm Hotel you can enjoy good food in the dining room with a view of the busy harbour.
