Fredriksborg Fortress
Fredriksborgs Fästning vid Oxdjupet was the country's strongest fortress when it was completed in 1735. The beach structure with a cannon tower by the water and the large Oxdjupet tower on the plateau housed a total of 86 cannons and could house up to 2,000 men. From the observation tower you can see all the way to Stockholm. Its two officers' residences from the 18th century were rebuilt in 2013-2015 into a hotel and restaurant.
Fredriksborg Hotel has daily guided tours for guests staying, eating or having coffee every open day May-September. The guide shows around and tells about Sweden's and local history from the 16th century to today. At other times, the fortress is not open on the inside. On request, the hotel can offer guided tours of the Myttingen line, talk about the wrecks in Oxdjupet or organize guided tours for groups at any other time.
