Kuusisto Bishop's Castle Ruins

The ruins of Kuusisto Castle beside the water.

During the Middle Ages, the island of Kuusisto was home to a grand castle belonging to the bishops of the Finnish Catholic Church. In its glory days, the castle was luxurious and the bishops were powerful. But the Reformation brought this to an end and the reigning Swedish king ordered the castle to be demolished. There are only ruins that remain nowadays, but you are still welcome to visit and explore this fascinating history.
