West of Nagu is Korpo, a picturesque area dotted with 2,000 islands, islets, and skerries. There is far more sea than land in Korpo and locals have long made their living here in industries like fishing and maritime transport. It is a history that is proudly commemorated at the Korpoström Archipelago Centre, but Korpo also has plenty of new reasons to celebrate. The area has started to develop a reputation for fine dining, while events like the toe-tapping Korpo Sea Jazz are putting Korpo on the cultural map. Needless to say, Korpo is a popular tourist destination, especially in the warmer months. It is accessible by ferry from nearby islands or even by bus from Turku.

By bus: You can easily get to Korpo on board the Archipelago Bus. It runs several times a day between Turku, Pargas, Nagu, Korpo, and Houtskär, depending on the season. Find timetables here or use the journey planner on the Matkahuolto website.

By car: Driving to Korpo is straightforward; just follow the same road that takes you to Pargas and Nagu. It’s around a 50-minute journey from Nagu. You’ll need to take a ferry from Pärnäs in Nagu to Retais in Korpo, but it’s a free service and runs several times an hour. You can also drive along the Archipelago Road in the opposite direction, via Iniö and Houtskär. See the ‘by sea’ section for more information on the ferry from Houtskär.

By bike: Cycle to Korpo along the Archipelago Trail. You can stick to the main road or take the quieter dirt road. Find out more here.

By sea: There are several ferries, which will take you to some of the islands in this region, as well as a chartered boat that sails from Örö to Korpoström. Check out the Saaristo Lautat website for more information. If you’re travelling from Houtskär, hop aboard the ferry, which departs from Kittuis Ferry Jetty.
